Art On Center:
celebrating 50 years of art at UMA

The "Art on Center" exhibition will showcase the creative work of UMA's art faculty from November 17th to January 7th at the Charles Danforth Gallery at UMA. An opening reception celebrating the artists, their work and UMA's 50th anniversary will be held December 4th at 4:30pm.
"Art on Center" is a retrospective exhibition of UMA’s art faculty, looking back at the first 50 years of the art department. The B.A. in Studio Art began as an Associate of Art degree. Dean Charles Danforth was a strong advocate of both art and music education at the University of Maine at Augusta and initiated art’s leading presence in the state’s capital. Professors Paratore, Nadel & Katz were the first artists to envision the studio art degree. Professor Adrienne was instrumental in evolving the degree into the current baccalaureate status.

“Art on Center” features the breadth, depth of current art professors as well as retired art professors. The exhibit includes photography, painting, mixed media, works on paper, printmaking, and ceramic pieces. Exhibiting artists are Karen Adrienne, Jere DeWaters, Robert Katz, Joshua Nadel, Philip Paratore, Peter Precourt, Robert Rainey and Brooks Stoddard.
This celebratory event for the university is a community outreach and the community is cordially invited to join the University of Maine at Augusta in this 50th Anniversary celebration.
